TALLA-GALLA (August 17-18)

In an effort to raise money for our next album we want to invite you to our TALLA-GALLA weekend. This is our way of fund raising while still being able to entertain and satisfy you. You will get what you pay for with the cost of admission – we promise.

Friday night will be a big concert at TT The Bear’s Place in Cambridge with our great friends Last Good, The Nickel & Dime Band, and Tom Thumb. We are working to play one of the best sets of our life for this special night.
Saturday is the Talla-Galla Carnival at The Heartbeat Collective in Jamaica Plain. This is going to be a great experience for us because when we play concerts it’s hard to get to know the people who call themselves our fans as closer friends. Here we will be able to entertain you and get to know you. Live acoustic music, games, art, surprises, and all you can eat/drink is covered in the price of admission ($15).

More details can be found on our Facebook events page as well as the “tour” tab on the left side of this page.

We hope you can be a part of the festivities!

Free Download - Happy Holidays!

It has been an amazing year for us. We are so thankful for all the support that folks like you give us by coming to shows, telling your friends, supporting our albums, and loving music as much as we do.

As a gift here is a free download of our cover of Loudon Wainwright\'s Swimming Song (if you don\'t listen to much Loudon hopefully you will start now). This song is, ironically, about summer so hopefully it will bring some warmth to your chilly December day. Its definitely a Tallahassee Van favorite.

Don't forget to download for yourself and pass it on - email it to friends, post the link on your facebook. Its yours to enjoy.

Thank you agin for everything you have done for and with us. We would be nothing without the support of our warm and loving fans.

Happy Holidays & Much Love,

Brian, Matt, Shawn, Scott, and Dave (aka Tallahassee)

Tallahassee Short Documentary

We have been making a lot of new friends through Facebook and playing shows recently. One of the greatest aspects about making music for us is getting to know so many people and hear their stories. Music is about connecting and its been such a joy to meet the people we have been able to.

We made this short documentary about a year ago in an effort to help others to get to know us and our story. It seems a good time to re-post it for all of our new acquaintances to see. Pass it on if you can. We have not and will not be anything without you. Enjoy!

Drawlins' By Brian - "Bart Squatch"

I was first called "Sauce Squatch" when yanking a cork out of a wine bottle with my teeth at a house show in Worcester. From that point on I had declared my self Sasquatch, and became enamored with the name in many forms. Currently I have requested that all of my nieces and nephews, and their parents, call me Uncle Sasquatch. My hope is that their perspective of me is built around knowing me mainly as a man called "Sasquatch". I digress. When in a store with friends I found this heavy old hideous rug. It was brown strips of leather and musty. I draped it over my head and snuck around the store declaring my self the "Bart Squatch" This is an illustration of what I thought Bart Squatch looked like.

Love,

Brian (Uncle Sasquatch)

Tallahassee TAPE-O-THON + Name Our Van

As some of you may already know (or ridden in), we are the proud new owners of a beautiful and glorious forest green, 12 passenger 2001 dodge ram van. She's glorious in her own right; however we need your help. Though you can't use it as a tax Wright-off... we're asking for cassette tape donations because we don't own any ourselves- other than a Michael Jackson 2 song demo with "Black or White" on it and an old Merle Haggard tape (which are both good, but are getting old quick). If you have any gems laying around that you are tired of, or want to make us a mix tape that you think Tallahassee would enjoy hearing while we drive up and down the east coast... we would greatly appreciate it.

Genre/artist suggestions (but not limited to) would include: 80-90's hip hop (think Goodie Mob, Cypress Hill, Fugees, etc.), old country (George Jones, Roger Miller, etc), old pop music, Billy Joel, T-Rex, The Cure, Townes Van Zandt, Justin Timberlake (yes, Justin Timberlake), Stevie Wonder, Big Star, The Temptations, Black Sabbath, John Denver, Boyz II Men, Joe Cocker, Neil Young, Harry Nilsson, Taj Mahal, Paul Simon, anything from Rounder Records, Chuck Berry, the list goes on.

We would also love suggestions for names of the van. If you mail/bring us tapes, we will send you a special piece of Tallahassee memorabilia. You know, help us help you.

Please mail submissions to:

Drawlings By Brian - "Astronaut-A-Hassee"

When we first started as a band I would make hundreds of flyers with weird drawlings on them. I would leave them at every coffee shop, tap room, and venue in Providence. Scott and I then had this great idea that we would take these and put them inside trendy music magazines like Paste and Rolling Stone. I don't know if they ever helped but it sure was a good way to ease my anxiety. This was the first color flyer I ever did.

Enjoy,

Brian

Happy Holidays/Free Song Download

It’s been an amazing year for us. We recorded 2 records ("Tallahassee Schmallahassee" and our upcoming 2011 release “Jealous Hands” at Perfect Sound Studios), we played a lot of shows in new towns, we gained our loving manager/pshcyiatrist – Dave Drago, we found a brilliant drummer – Matthew Raskopf, we shot tons of videos with the help of Farm Fresh Productions, and so much more.

We want to thank everyone who has been a part of this great year. Click on this link to download and/or listen to our free holiday song (to download you right click on the song and save it). It’s a cover of the John Denver classic “Christmas For Cowboys.”

Enjoy the music and the holidays. We love you all so much and would not enjoy what we do quite as much without your appreciation and support.

Best Wishes,

TALLAHASSEE

Canned Orchestra For The Rockettes Holiday Shows in Boston???

A little news on the "utter BS" front from your friend and Tallahassee drummer, Matt Raskopf...

The Rockettes' "Christmas Spectacular" show is now running at the Wang Theatre in Boston. Long story short, they are using an electronic reproduction of the typically live music. Boston musicians that annually depend on working in the orchestra pit have been sidelined due to this move. Please read this link so that I don't mistake any of the facts:

http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2010/12/05/out_of_tune/?camp=misc:on:share:article

Personally, this is completely unacceptable for a long list of reasons. However, I'm not about to sit here and tell you to stay at home and not go see the show. Please go. Sit down. Get comfy. Maybe a little popcorn. Some sody pop. You will exit the theatre, drive home, and sit at your computer to get on Facebook and update your status with something like "Just saw the most amazingly real show ever. Christmas rules." Just keep this in mind. As soon as you check your friends list, you'll find that I am no longer your facebook friend. Can you live with that? There are consequences people. So go enjoy your falsely advertised half-a$$ed show. You already know what will happen....

Music We Love - Wandering Willow

Hey music friends! I wanted to get the news out on my great musician friend Daniel Hotter and his beautifully talented wife Elizabeth. Back in the midst of October, Tallahassee had the pleasure of performing in the small town of Greenville to a wonderful crowd. The show was fun, but man....those Raskopf's and friends know how to after party! To make a long story short, we had the pleasure of being entertained by Greenville's own Daniel and Elizabeth Hotter. Their original songs are beautiful folk songs; honest, and clever. Dan put it in his own words saying: "Our lyrics usually revolve around the magic in the world and the relationships that bind it all together; the mixing of mythology, human imagination & nature."
If you are in New York's capital district, but especially in Greene County, check them out at Ruby's Hotel (www.rubyshotel.com) on most Saturday nights. Check the band out at WWW.WANDERINGWILLOW.COM, or look them up on myspace. The Hotters.... dem some good people!

Tallahassee Naked

I know what you are thinking... and unfortunately Tallahassee is not doing a show where they all play nude...yet. But we are doing a series of shows that Scott and I will be playing acoustic and stripped down, which I'm really excited about. Approaching these shows we have had to pull back a lot of the instrumentation and build the song around well... just the song. Often our songs have very detailed and orchestrated instrumental sections. When reworking a song we have to rely the strength of the melody and structure; there is no drum kit to hide behind or electric guitar effects. There is only the honesty of the bare bones tune. I hope you can check out one of these sets in the upcoming months. We will be reworking some old songs and trying out some new ones. And don’t worry; we will still be playing the majority of our shows as the full Tallahassee you know and love.

Check us out Acoustic in:
Northampton on 11/12
Tufts University in Boston on 11/13
The Hallway Gallery in Boston on 11/22

Tallahassee and The Sauces We Love

Sriracha Sauce – by Matt Raskopf

Ahhhhh yes! I’m sure you've seen this little number peaking at you from any local diner, Asian eatery, or even your own well stocked kitchen. This Thai sauce is one of my personal go-to's when making a chili dinner especially. There is something so comforting about putting almost any dish down in front of you, maybe even a chicken casserole giving her a nice tasty taste, then splashin’ a bit of that Seeeeracha on top, givin it a mixin, and sayin "now that's the ticket folks." It's not going to knock you on your behind, but it sure will make you perk up. If you are sitting next to a bottle of that red goodness, raise it up, and come along with me to give thanks for its wonderful glory. Sriracha!!

Music We Love - Doc Watson

Every musician has that person they look up to, that they dream of sitting with talking with while listening and watching them play. For me this man is Doc Watson. Doc was born in the early 1920's and grew up in the Appalachian North Carolina's. He was raised in a family where music was what you did. His father and mother both banjo and fiddle players, not by trade but by passion. Doc was born nearly blind and as the years went on lost all of his vision. Doc is often heard saying that he wanted to become an engineer but he couldn't see so he played guitar. I saw Doc play live once, he must have been in his 80s. He was walked on stage by his grandson, and stood crooked over his guitar as if his body had grown around the instrument. His right for arm bigger than my own combined. He knew that guitar better than most men know how to walk. It is often said but in this case true, every string and fret was just an extension of Doc's hand. Truly a thing of beauty. Check out some of the songs that he and his late son Merle did together, South Bound, for some family style picking that will blow your mind.

OH MAN! MOUSTACHE’

So, anyone who knows me knows that I am a fine connoisseur of facial hair. I love a great beard and a well kept moustache. A friend of mine, Ricky Chapman, has been shooting annual moustache calendars for the past few years. Last year, due to a logistical catch, I did not qualify for the calendar… Shit… So this year I made sure that the hair above my lip was ready for the 2011 calendar. Scott, Matt and I went to Ricky’s on a Wednesday night and Scott ceremonially shaved me into one awesome looking dirt ball.

>So, posing as the Disturber of the Peace here I am …

>And check out the calendar on Facebook.

ENJOY! And as Ricky says buy one for your self… and your Mom!

Drawlins’ By Brian – “Bath Tub Train Wreck”

I drew this during an era where I decided I would learn to make moon shine in my small Virginia apartment. I read about all of the ways in which one could prepare mash, cook mash, and flavor their “White Lighting.” I found my mind wondering to a romantic past when moonshiners were just good old boys making whiskey to accompany them on their nightly sits on the porch. Kind of like a fiddle for your belly. Soon after making my first batch of moonshine, with my dear friend Kevin, I was knocked on my ass and told by my friends I would go blind. I learned a lot that summer about science, cooking, waffle houses, guns, and holiday nights. This old relic about sums it up.

Note: It is not illegal to make small amounts of home liqueur without the intent to sell.

Cookin’ With Tallahassee – “The McBartle”

To understand the Mc Bartle you have to understand some things about my wife and I.

1- We love to take couples names and combine them together. Example: I am Barthelmes and my wife Knotts - Our team name is Bartleknotts.
2- We love McDonald's breakfast.
3- We name all invented or adapted foods in some way after our team name.

Ok now that we got that out of the way, the Mc Bartle is an invention I made for my wife who was hesitant to branch out from her classic pancakes and syrup. It combines all things we love for breakfast into one bad ass meal. How to make the Mc Bartle:

1- Make a pancake, fried egg, and sausage, faux-sausage or bacon.
2- Place a slice of American cheese on the pancake. (For you fancy assholes forget the Cheddar, Gouda, and what ever else you think is better than Craft singles. Ask Natalie, it sucks)
3- Place your fried egg, over easy or over medium, on top of the cheesy pancake.
4- Place you meat or fo-meat on top of the entire stack.
5- Pour a stupid amount of Ohio Maple syrup on top.

If you are a skeptic… Stop It! This will blow your mind and you will thank me. Every friend who has ever stayed over or joined us for breakfast has become a believer. Seriously there is an army of Mc Bartle evangelists. Get in line and your mouth will thank you!

The Cosmopolitan Cowboy

For the longest time I have been searching for the right sounding electric guitar for Tallahassee and for the way that I play. After borrowing my friend Nicolai's Thin line GNL, and recording with a classic Telecaster on our last record I knew that a Tele was what I wanted.

How to find the right guitar? Shit man, that is hard to do. You have to play a lot of them until you find one that feels right. So I went to the only place I know that has many high quality vintage and used guitars; Empire Guitars in Providence, RI . If you haven't been there then you are missing out. It is any guitar player’s dream, guitars ranging from 30,000 dollar collector pieces to high quality professional and beginner guitars, and a myriad of beautiful amps. Every guitar is hand chosen and set up by the fine folks who own and run the local shop. This place is amazing. Go now.

I played guitars with Scott and Mike for hours. When I placed my hands upon this 1996 Thinline Telecaster I knew she was meant to be with me and me with her. The sound is a perfect blend of round bass strings and the classic Telecaster twang on the high strings. Scott named her the Cosmopolitan Cowboy.

This Saturday – Music to Benefit the Ovarian Cancer Support Group “Caring Together.”

Family and friends here in Greenville and the surrounding environs are really excited about the upcoming concert featuring Tallahassee, with a warm up by Kyle Davidson, Matt’s uncle! On Saturday, October 16th, the band will be playing a benefit concert in memory of Allyson Benjamin, who fought a courageous eight year battle against ovarian cancer. When drummer boy Matt wanted to run in the Boston Marathon a couple of years ago, Greenville area musicians came together to do a benefit concert that helped raise the money needed for Matt to run for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. That amazing concert featured many talented individuals and groups, and was dedicated to the memory of Gail Benedict, our high school band teacher’s wife.

When Allyson was fighting her cancer, someone decided to print up shirts that read “Benjamin Brigade” on the front, and the words “Courage”, “Strength”, “Hope”, and “Faith” on the back. As time went on, more and more shirts were being printed, and every Tuesday people wore them to school. Even though Allyson is no longer with us, many continue to wear their shirts each Tuesday. All freewill donations made the night of the concert will go to Allyson’s support group, “Caring Together”. Every year the group holds a 5K run/walk in Albany’s Washington Park. This year, seventy people showed up to walk or run as members of the “Benjamin Brigade”, and one of the school teachers came in first in the race!

The concert is being co-sponsored by All Arts Matter, and will be held in their Cultural Arts Center located just north of the intersection of Rt. 81 and Rt. 32 in the center of Greenville. The building used to be a Presbyterian church, and seating is a bit limited, so make sure you’re early for the best seats! Please join us for a music-filled evening and support a great cause!

Drawlins By Brian - "Love is Spiked Heads"

When you draw, people ask you to draw them a lot. I often think in my head "Have you seen my art? Seriously, it is F**ked." My wife will tell you she always looks like an old Hispanic witch when I draw her. My grand mother upon seeing one of my sketch books the night before my wedding told me that I was most likely possessed by demons. Her being raised a Pentecostal, I thought she would enjoy the images of snakes in mouths and multiple eyes on everything... but no, she told me I had demons. I love my grand mother, that's not the point. The point is I will draw you but you might look like your full of demons. This is a drawling I tried to do for my brother and sister in law to illustrate their love.

Drawlins By Brian - "Beards of America"

Shawn taught me how to use Photo Shop – which was a mistake. I made this poster for my friend Luke who is an American history teacher. After making this for him I ruined many of my drawlins’ by putting them on the computer and coloring them. Shawn regretted ever showing me how to use the Paint Bucket. He told me that I was no longer allowed to use Photoshop, thus this era of mine came to a quick and abrupt end.

Drawlins By Brian - "The Incarnation of the Seeing Eye Hand"

This drawlin shows the meeting of two of my obsessions; Severed Hands and Eyes. I have long been obsessed with eyes, multiple eyes, and eyes in places they don't belong. I became obsessed with Severed hands a while back to the point that I had one tattooed on my body. After showing one of my hands to Shawn (Tallahassee Bassist) he started to push me to put more and more lines on the drawlin. I humored him and inundated his email with these illustrations.

Write up on MMPWorld.com

We had a great piece of press written about us recently by Nicole Sakin with the site mmpword.com. Read the whole article by clicking here.

“Feeling A Little Folksy Here
By Nicole Sakin ⋅ September 27, 2010 ⋅
It’s been a long and humid and awful summer full of yucky gray skies from the smog and moisture that collects in your pores and causes zits. I know, gross. It’s fabulous that I’m back now, huh? I agree completely. It is great. So, on to the music that is making me pray every night for a sudden plummet in the temperature. And yearn for fall foliage.
Tallahassee: Gypsy Son
Have you heard this song? I mean, even the name screams “wood-y and fall-like and dash-causing-way-of-describing-things.” It’s really quite soothing. I have to say I’m quite fixated on the violin that suddenly plays in the background. And, the guitar riff mixed in with it just makes it sound like something straight out of Cold Mountain or something of that ilk. Haunting isn’t the right word, but I can’t think of any other term to fully describe it.”

Drawlins By Brian: "Three Brians"

I love this old drawlin. It is an illustration I was working on for a CD cover for myself. My friends joked, before I met Scott, Shawn, and Matt that I was the three Brians when makling music. This was due to my playing of all instruments on my shitty songs. This was a humurous illustration of what three of me would look like. I like to believe when I gave Scott my first demos to try and whooo him, that this drawlin is what won his heart.

FRIENDS IN THE NORTHEAST - ENJOY THE AUTUMN LEAVES

I am becoming increasingly home sick recently. I am part of the bands LA branch and have been out here about a year now, but I was raised in the quaint town of Fairport in upstate NY (outside Rochester). The weather in LA has been cool and lovely recently - almost East Coastish. A good friend of Tallahassee’s, Krista, and myself were having a conversation the other day about how the fragrant smells of leaves and the crispyness in the air that we are used to this time of year are absent from our western climate. Regardless of the perfect sweater temperature, it still smells like LA. I am writing this blog to ask all of our friends who live in places where you can truly experience the fall weather to go out and enjoy! Enjoy it for me and all our other east coast brothers and sisters on the west coast. And if you really want to score points send me some pictures of your leafy yards, fiery trees and local woods.

KFC DOUBLE DOWN? What the hell...

EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE IT FEELS SO RIGHT TO DO WHATS SO WRONG

Tallahassee prides itself on a refined palette and an appreciation for fresh home cooked food. We all love to cook and we enjoy thoughtful fresh foods, wines, and craft beers. But every once in a while you just want to do something bad to yourself (maybe this is Freudian).

When we were in LA recording our upcoming record a few weeks ago we found out that our engineer, Jason Donaghy, had Double Downed himself not just once, but many times. We were disappointed and exhilarated all at the same time. In an effort to get into the mind of the man himself we prepped ourselves mentally for a double down experience of your own. One afternoon Brian snuck off to get a bag of about a dozen double downs and bring them back to the studio. He surprised us all. We all ate our DD and the reaction was mixed. Some felt strange, some oddly satisfied.

The lesson we drew from this experience was that no matter how much organic, raw, fresh, whole, blah, blah. and blah, food you try to feed yourself - every once in a while an American needs to eat meat and cheese bookended by battered and fried meat... Maybe...

Drawlins By Brian: "Poussin"

Charles Jean Gustave Nicolas Baron de la Vallée Poussin is a guy. Ok to be honest I have no idea who this guy is. I found this old drawlin recently and it made me chuckle. My now wife, then girl friend was in school studing statistics. I had heard her saying all these ridiculous names and theories and equations. To assist her in not pulling her hair out at 4am, I made drawlins of the people whom these theroies and eqautions were named after. That way she could put a face to her hatred. Thus born this drawlin of Poussin.

We would like to introduce to the Tallahassee family a gentleman who we love very much. His name is Matt Lundgren and he has a radio show every Wednesday from 12pm-1pm EST out of St. Bonaventure College (one of the top 5/best college radio stations in America). He has been plugging us on his show since day one. His show consists of great tunes, a passionate love for music, and tips on how to experience real happiness and a fulfilling life. Matt is a college counselor who was offered a 1 hour spot at the radio station about a year ago. Matt, being a man always looking to experience new things, ecstatically accepted the weekly show (having no previous experience) and has been filling our ears with awesome music and good vibes ever since. Matt is a good friend and we would love it if you could support his show, and yourself, by tuning in. You can listen online from 12pm-1pm every Wednesday at 88.3 THE BUZZ’S WEBSITE.

Who knows, you might even hear some Tallahassee from time to time...

HOME SWEET HOME - BY MATT RASKOPF

I recently was able to take a trip back home to Greenville, a small town in upstate NY, and here is what I experienced and took in. The first and most important thing I felt was the quiet. I've been living in a pretty active Boston and was on the road all summer, so the sound of silence was particularly breath taking. Going for my typical run, I felt like a giant. All my good memories, driving out to Catskill creek to go cliff jumping, bike riding up the powerline trail, going to soccer practice, they come rushing back, but for some reason I feel smaller in those memories. A great deal goes by when you leave your small town, and i guess that while i physically may have grown an inch or two, I think the new experiences and tough lessons of life might make you feel larger in spirit as well. I guess it's pretty awesome when you can finish a long run, sweaty and gross, and hop on an old 1947 Ferguson Tractor and truly enjoy the greasy oily smell of it, remembering the heavy Northeastern snowfalls, playing outside as this big-wheeled monster moves over the gravel driveway. One of the best parts of being home is taking notes on why you are the way you are. Working our way through more than a couple of bottles wine helped me see the wild and untamed spirit that I more than likely inherited from my mother. It's nice to see a picture of my father on his wedding day and genuinely see that I look exactly like that man. Fred Rasklpoof. These guys are proud of their son and it is truly heartwarming.

I would like to take this time to talk about our friends at Perfect Sound Studios, Jake Rodenhouse (owner and fellow producer of the up coming Tallahassee record) and Jason Donaghy (Engineer of hit records and Mix extraordinaire).

Jake has been in my life for many years as a past business partner, best friend, and all around active participant in jackassery. The BEARD Series: Part 2 of 5 (By Matt Raskopf))

THE BEARD NEWB

As a recent first time beard-grower, I wanted to give some perspective to the beard growing virgins out in the world:

When you first decide to go the way of the furry-faced man, it’s important to take a look at your pop. Im not talking about what the old man looks like now. You’re going to have to go grab one of those leatherbound bibles your mother or grandmother calls a photo album and sift through the polaroids until you see the 20 or 30 year young version of said father. There is also the old saying that you will inherit the hair of your mother’s father, but I have reason to belive that merely references your hairline. Fortunately for me, there were visual references to Fred (my Dadda) and his Fidel Castro like look as he held brother Tom on his tap. It was weird seeing a 5 yearold Caucasian child sitting on Fidel’s lap… I digress.

This valuable knowledge is important. When you get to maybe the 2nd, definitely 3rd and 4th week of your beard timeline, there will be some serious itchy scratchy moments. You will question yourself when you fail to see the moustache connecting to the beard corners on the side of your mouth. Keep the image of your thickly-haired close to heart. You can do this. Neaten things up if you must, but remember that you have to go into the unknown at some point in order to reap the benefits.

Once things get thicker and more promising, there WILL be several new challenges and temptations. Females will make comments like, “are you going to trim?” or “get that hair off your lip!” or “so why are you growing your beard?” You are now in a mental battle. Remind yourself why you chose to do this. Keep a comb around at all times (maybe a Tallahassee maple beard comb?) to keep any twisting and knarling at a minimum. I actually would use some product at times, like a shaping crème, to keep things more rounded. Let others feel it when they ask, get friendly with it you know. It’s a gift for all to enjoy.
Happy hair-growth to all!

The BEARD Series: Part 1 of 5 (By Brian Barthelmes)

How does one grow a beard?
I often receive this question from people, friends and other wise. I cannot tell you fully what has sprouted this growth unto my face but there are two strong schools of thought; The Deviant Theory and The Man Theory.

1- The Deviant Theory

In my "deviant" theory I believe the growth of ones beard to be directly correlated to the amount of Whisky consumed and "chest slaps received. You ask "What is a chest slap?" Good question. One person bare chested, the person wishing to spurt beard growth will be the bare chested contender. One person bare handed, This person a loving friend or family member who wishes to help this person spur beard growth. The bare front hand or back hand is then smacked with great force into the bare chest participant. One can almost instantly feel the beard grow upon their face. The physical contact is much like the sun to the beard. The Whisky is the rain. Trust me this works. Do you think it is a quinsidence that rowdy backwoods Americans grow some of the worlds greats beards. I think not.

2- The Man Theory

The man theory is one that appeals to people who wish not to have a drinking problem and let their loved ones beat the shit out of them. In the man theory one is rewarded with a beautiful face of hair when they cross difficult issues dealing with becoming a man. An anonymous quote I once read stated that "The actions of a boy are reflected on the face of a boy, But the actions of a man are a beard." The more one accepts responsibility for ones life and lives as a man the more their facial hair will grow. So for all your friends who can't grow a beard simply tell them to "Grow the F*ck up".

Pre Production Reunion!!

This weekend we will be in Philly to record our Pre Production for our next record.

What is Pre Pro you ask? Basically we will all do a dry run of the record. Its like a dress rehearsal for the real record tracking coming up. It gives us a chance to hear how our music sounds recorded and make changes and improvements now as opposed to wasting expensive time doing it in the studio.

I will be doing the recording, with my brother Dan Drago, at Shawn's house. It will be a great environment and a great team to get it all done.

For those of you who purchased the "Making of Record" Pledge Package on our webstore, this will be one of the versions of the songs you get to hear.

This will also be the first time since April that we will all be together in the same place. So excited to be back together with some amazing friends.

We will film a video update this weekend and have it up for you all to see soon!

Much Love,

Dave/Tallahassee

Our Drummer - The Star Wars Geek

From May 12th to July 25, this Tallahassee drummer had an adventure... not with the lovely Brian, Scott and Shawn... but with about 85 other instrumentalists. Star Wars in Concert (www.starwarsinconcert.com) is essentially the closest thing to a rock concert for orchestral musicians that there can be. For about 11 weeks I was a part of the "cast" and crew as we travelled from city to city covering much of North America performing in large arenas. Playing the role of percussionist rather than drummer, I graciously accepted the job of cymbalist in the percussion section. It was a dream come true getting to not only perform music that true nerds worldwide can identify with, but getting to do it with some of the finest musicians around the country (Boston Pops, NYC freelancers, New World Symphony members, Hollywood Bowl members...). Performing on such a big stage started as a thrilling and extremely nerve-racking job... I felt like I was going to shit my pants that first show. We all learned how to rely on each other, listen, watch, and talk about the show on the tour bus and back in the hotel rooms. We ate together, we explored together, frequently drank too much together. We saw ancient pyramids, we saw tropical storms, we saw beautiful Spokane riversystems, we hiked the Canadian Rockies, we grinned ear to ear for family members who came to see us, and we all eventually said goodbye when it came to a close. I learned alot about life on the road, and I learned that what you miss most are the things that hit close to home. For me, that happens to include a couple of furry faced mofos.

I think back to Mid-April...getting the phone call... goosebumps and a racing heart. The first people to cheer me on were the one and only members of Tallahassee. We drank whiskey, watched Scotty win Cowboy-Face, and walked down Lamartine St as a band. Here's to my Tallahassee family. Here's to our own future tours together.

Pledge Drive Status Report

Firstly, Thank You to all of the people who were kind enough to pledge and buy merch from our store in our time of need. If you do not know already, we are running a full scale fund raising operation for our next record that we will be recording at the end of the summer. We have already raised a good amount of money. In fact, the outpouring of support has been so generous. We are still asking for anyone and everyones help. A few dollars goes a long way. You can click on our store link and find our pledge packages and merch for sale.
Thank you so much for putting up with our annoying need for money. Tallahassee loves you all!!

Who is Scott Thompson? - By Shawn Carney

Scott Thompson: the Paul McCartney of Tallahassee

Friend of animal, wordsmith, hypochondriac, guitar god, and our little buddy.
Although he looks like the half-asian and slightly more co-ordinated version of myself, don't be mistaken... this 115 lb. monster will lay the smack down if deemed necessary.

I first spotted Scott from a distance, walking across campus in the middle of summer with a scarf on carrying a guitar... and I knew then at some point our paths would cross.
It wasn't until a year and a half later that our first words were exchanged in an American History class.
We began talking about music and shortly thereafter I began attending Brian and Scott's 8am Saturday morning band practices. (Pretending the whole time that I actually ENJOYED playing music at 8 in the morning.)

It doesn't take too long of hanging around Scott until you start to realize some things about yourself: you probably talk too much, are hasty with words and actions, and don't know anything about music theory.
He's like the late twenty-something, cool, mustached grandfather you wish you always had that still likes to drink beer and knows how to shred a guitar.
This dude makes women weak in the knees. But save it ladies, Scott is taken.

(Oh, and for the record- he's not half asian...)

Who is Matt Raskopf? - By Scott Thompson

My piece on Matt is in the form of a proper English sonnet replete with iambic pentameter:

"Lo! Dost I recall in days of summer,
A burden placed by winter’s ragged hand:
For to seek perchance to find a drummer,
A minstrel to restore our merry band,
A nave by name of Craig didth we beseech,
To scatter swift the echoes of our plea,
And patience is a lesson fate doth teach,
Till spring hath sprung a creature fair as thee,
Shall I compare thee to a grizzly bear?
Thy face hath sprout a mask of sable curls,
Mine heart oh hath thy steady hands ensnared,
It ticks in time to rhythms they unfurl,
Greaseth my knees and so fleeceth my bees,
At last we three hath found our missing piece."

Who is Dave Drago? - By Brian Barthelmes

After having just come through a traumatic attempt at recording our first album Wolfe Moon, Shawn, our Bass player, stated “I have this friend who used to record hardcore bands in Rochester…” We had no other option at that point. A blackberry toting, fashionable bastard showed up in the weeks to follow. I knew I liked Dave when he told the band to meet up at 8am on a Saturday morning over coffee to schedule how to record the album in four days. The Dave of the morning eats healthy, plans, organizes and works hard, really hard.

After 11 hours in our makeshift studio, Dave called a close on the first day. That is when I met Dave of the night: a piggyback riding, clothes-less manic. I love Dave of the night.

Dave is the organization, brains, and conflict resolver of Tallahassee, otherwise known as the Manager. Kudos to Dave because managing Tallahassee is like being the GM for a neurotic, know it-all, t-ball team. We would not exist without Dave; we would not shit with out Dave; and we sure as hell would not have this web blog without Dave.

I love Baby D as if I grew up sinning with him. We are lucky to have stumbled upon the hardcore kid turn LA metro sexual.

“Davey, Brian, That’s my Mutha Ucking Baby D!”

Who is Shawn Carney? - By Dave Drago

I met Shawn when I was about 21 and he was 17. He was in a really crappy hardcore band that I had the unfortunate pleasure to record at my studio in Canandaigua, NY. I immediately loved Shawn. I was super impressed at how emotionally intelligent, witty, and personable he was. At 17 he was the most bearded teen I ever met and he was an immensely "old soul" - not to mention he drove around in an 80's era station wagon on which he painted a mural that said "Metal Mobile." I was excited to find that Shawn was also a Jazz lover and an excellent upright bass player (this was relatively unheard of amongst the clients that I worked with in my studio). He definitely defied my expectations.

Shawn quickly became way more than a client. Over many intimate trips to the local Wendy's, where I later found out that I had inspired Shawn to start eating meat again, our relationship developed into one of the better friendships of my life. Shawn has been a cornerstone in my life for the last 7 years. He is someone who I gain a lot of perspective from and I look forward to growing ever closer in the future.

I love working with Shawn in the Tallahassee context. He adds so much to our family musically and in so many other ways. He edits our images, designs our websites, keeps the style of our merch in check, and has a beautiful beard. As a manager, I would be lost without him.

Who is Brian Barthelmes? - By Matt Raskopf

When I first met Brian Barthelmes, let’s say I was probably living the most dark and depressing days of my life. I had broken up with my girlfriend, was out of school, in debt, and worked a cruddy day job at Radioshack (our friends call us the Shack…puke). Needless to say, I was looking for anything out there that could bring me out of the funk, so I naturally looked to the most promising place; craigslist. After some rallying emails, we decided to meet in my basement…life was about to change.

Brian and his partner Scott made their way down to my newly arranged basement and proceeded to conduct my supposed audition. I quickly learned that Brian was the “no problems” kinda guy when he didn’t care about the cold temperature or low ceilings of our space. When I offered him some tea he was extremely gracious of even the smallest gesture on my part. I of course had to ask about his NFL stint, of which he was more than happy to talk about. Brian’s story revealed just how much integrity he possesses; ignoring his true passion for art and music…ignoring his love for community and social awareness was simply not in the cards for him. I’ll tell you what kind of deck this man plays with:

1) A top notch chef and lover of cuisine (burritos)
2) Consistently thinks of others before himself (Caity – you is lucky!)
3) If a drawing utensil is in his hands - watch out
4) One word – Beer
5) Honesty and love in his words
6) A cool breeze, autumn leaf, creaky porch… all soothers of this beast.
7) The kindest eyes this heterosexual male has ever stared into

People frequently ask me when I joined the band Tallahassee. With a frontman like Brian it’s tough to remember… I feel like I’ve known this man my whole life. Thanks for saving me Bart.

Our Family Grows Ever Bigger

Hey everyone! Dave the manager here.

Tallahassee is expanding. We just hired our new media and promotions assistant, Nick Cedergren. He will be assisting us in keeping the world up to date through our websites and fan pages. He also has extensive film background. When we are in the studio in a month he will shoot video updates which we will upload about every day from the session. This will be a great way for all of you who were generous enough to support our recording session a chance to see what we are up too. You will either be very proud or very disappointed.

Anyway, more about Nick. He just moved to LA a few weeks ago from North Texas, where he attended University of North Texas. Before Texas he lived in Olympia, WA. He is quite charming, deals with my incessant talking in stride, and is already getting started on building our online fan base.

We look forward to a long relationship based on taking advantage of him without proper compensation in return. Although he will be compensated in an overwhelming amount of bearded man love. Does that make us even?

Oh, snap!

Hey y'all. We just finished our new EP: "Tallahassee Schmallahassee". It turned out so well thanks to all our friends who helped us out. Mainly Brigham for the use of his new kick ass recording studio, production ears, and engineering skills; Jake & Jason with their beautiful mixing minds and mastering skills; and Dave for pushing all of our lazy asses to get this shit done.

We will be launching a Tallahassee merch store very soon, and selling all of our sweet hand made ephemera. A small list of items for purchase: Beard-Nuzzle Tee, Hand-Anchor Tee, Various Owl and Beast-Head Tee's, the "Wolfe Moon" LP, "Tallahassee Schmallahassee" EP, screen printed underwear, T-hassee Hockey Jerseys, one-of-a-kind illustrations, letterpressed illustrations, zines, and country comics! We need your support and we are willing to trade our sweet shit for your help. Loving Tallahassee is easy.

Lastly, we will be in Ohio, Upstate New York, Providence, Lowell and Boston in the next few months! If you want Tallahassee in your town just ask. We love you all, especially if you read this whole thing!

Shiny new things!

Welcome to our brand new Website! We will be updating things daily so please check back frequently.

We have some great things going on right now. We are working on 2 records. On April 10th-11th we will be recording a new EP in Providence, RI with our good friend, Brigham Brough. We are very excited and will be turning this EP around quickly so you can all enjoy it.

We are also writing and preparing for out next full length that we will be recording in late summer. We are pulling out all the stops for this one. We will be recording it in Los Angeles with another one of our stunningly attractive dear friends (Jake Rodenhouse) in his studio with their uber talented engineer, Jason Donaghy. Check out their site. Its a truly beautiful studio and an amazing place to create music (Perfect Sound Studios). We will need your help to get us into the studio as well. Keep posted for details.

We'll have lots more news soon.
